The Referee Mentoring Program is open to all officials regardless of grade or experience. It is, however, primarily targeted and designed to help the new and inexperienced officials at all age levels.
Just as players have coaches that help them learn the game, develop specific skills, and raise their game to the next level, referee coaches work with referees in much the same way to make them better officials.
This program operates during league games and youth tournaments. A referee/mentor will watch all or part of a match that you are officiating. During the halftime break or between matches, this mentor will provide you with some helpful feedback on your performance. The feedback will be a quick set of strengths and pointers for improvement.
This mentoring program will also serve to help identify candidates for the WYSL Youth Referee of the Year and for the WSRO Referee Intermediate Program.
